Focusing over the full range from infinity down to life size (1:1 reproduction ratio), the Canon 100mm F2.8 EF USM Macro lens will impress any serious photographer with its combination of versatility, image quality and superb handling. It has got a high-performance ring type Ultrasonic Motor provides fast and silent AF throughout its focus range, and even more significantly, allows full-time manual focusing- permitting the close-up or macro shooter to instantly override the AF whenever necessary. The Canon 100mm EF f/2.8 Macro, though lacking the red ring denoting an "L" lens, may be the sharpest lens in the Canon lineup Canon 100mm F2.8 is an autofocus(AF) lens for macro photography up to life-size (1x) magnification. Inner focusing affords a long working distance of 5.9in. (149mm) at 1x. A 3-group floating system results in excellent delineation at all focusing distances. The optional Tripod Mount Ring (B) B (with adapter) enables the Canon 100mm F2.8 lens to be rotated for vertical or horizontal framing.

    I got my copy of this lens from Microglobe June 2007.
    The images that this lens can capture are rich in detail and colour.
    I have the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro for photographing flowers coupled with my EOS 400D camera.
    By using the AV setting, mirror lock enabled, remote control and a tripod, the results are stunning.
    I also take hand held shots with this fast lens and have encountered no problems.
    A superb quality lens that is easy and comfortable to use.
