The Helios CombiScope 7-21x25 monocular is a handy and compact but powerful versatile monocular. With its variable zoom from 7x to 21x magnification, Helios CombiScope monocular is powerful at distance viewing and at the same time ideal for close-up observation of nature, viewing butterflies, insects etc as it focuses from infinity down to amazing 30cm. A surprisingly good bit of kit for the price. Seems solidly built (time will tell, I guess) and works fine for what I want ("amateur" bird watching, sport and just generally watching the world). No obvious aberrations or distortions, but you're not paying Nikon or Swarovski prices so don't expect the earth!

The instructions are a bit of a joke - translated directly from original Chinese(?) but easy enough to work out. Basically - turn the ring nearest you for zoom; turn the next ring for focus; pull out the "sleeve" at the end for close focus. The close focus function really is good for looking at insects etc. It's a little tricky to fit a tripod without getting in the way of the zoom and focus rings, but at least it does have a tripod bush, unlike a very similarly specced monocular that I considered.

I have to say I was very impressed by delivery - ordered about 2 pm one day and got it the very next day. All in all, very satisfied.
