The Hoya 72mm Pro1 Digital ND32 Filter is a
dark neutral density filter with a factor of 32, giving a 5-stop light
reduction. This is a great filter for reducing shutter speeds to capture motion
such as in water, foliage or people. For example, in bright daylight the slowest
shutter speed possible without a filter could be 1/60 sec at f/22. By adding the
Hoya Pro1 ND32 neutral density filter, the 5 stop reduction in light means a
shutter speed of 1/2 sec would be possible. Another use of the ND32 would be
controlling depth of field. With a strong ND32, a much wider aperture can be
used. Wide apertures like f1.4 and f1.8 create a very shallow depth of field and
have the effect of isolating the subject from the background, but may not be
useable under very bright conditions. Using the Hoya Pro1 ND32 neutral density
filter to reduce the light solves this problem.
