Nikon's new Coolpix S800c compact camera is powered by an Android operating
system and connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi which means users can download any
application from Google Play, opening up a world of photo apps, social media
apps and games. As well as Wi-Fi the new compact comes equipped with a 10x
optical zoom, back-illuminated 16-MP CMOS sensor and high-resolution 8.7 cm
(3.5-in) OLED touch screen.
The Gingerbread-powered point-and-shoot features a 16-megapixel sensor, 10x
optical zoom, and can shoot 1080p video to boot. Of course, all of that takes a
backseat to the 3.5-inch LCD touch panel on the camera’s rear end, which allows
users to fire up apps and browse the web (thanks to a nifty embedded Wi-Fi
radio). The Coolpix S800c has a 10x optical zoom, with a
backside-illuminated CMOS image sensor, a capacitive 3.5-inch OLED touch
screen monitor, built-in GPS technology and shoots video in full HD 1080p.
It also has the ability to tether to a phone or tablet via Wi-Fi if there is no
network available.
On the back of this device appears to be a display that is indeed running
Android 2.3 Gingerbread with little to no modifications made to its build.
This device also has a set of three buttons below the screen (when held in
portrait mode) that likely attach to back, home, and menu functions. It’s not
yet known if this device will be able to connect to mobile data, but it’s quite
likely that it’ll be working with wi-fi signals at least.
You'll be able to browse the Web and access Google+, Facebook, and Twitter using
the pre-installed applications. The camera also gives you access to the Google
Play store, so you download applications to enhance your photographs from there.
The Coolpix S800c can create an ad hoc network, so it is possible to
transfer photos from it to your smartphone, even when no hot spot is available.
Rounding out the camera's feature set is 1080p video capture and a
built-in GPS so you can geotag images.
