Customer Reviews on Barr & Stroud Savanah 8x42 Roof Prism Binocular£116.24

Myself and my wife were looking to get a pair of binoculars as our old (compact) ones had seen better days. We had tickets for the England test match at the Oval and really wanted something suitable. Checking on many birdwatching and similar forums, it seemed that 8x42 or 10x42 were a good compromise between magnification, field of view, brightness of image, and size. Several review sites later revealed some encouraging reviews of the Barr and Stroud Savanah range, although they were slightly more expensive than we'd originally planned for. Searching the web revealed that Microglobe had them in stock at a very reasonable price (£122 delivered) and offered quick delivery. We ordered them and they arrived the following day - excellent service from Microglobe who emailed at each stage of the ordering process, and also included the tracking number for us to track the delivery.
The binos themselves appeared very well made, and came with a reasonable case and comfortable strap.
At the cricket, they really impressed both of us - my wife wears glasses and had no problems using them with the screw-out eyecups.
One reason we chose the 8x42 Savanah was for the wide field of view in the spec. This proved to be the case in the field making it easy to follow the cricket ball and generally giving an impression of space looking through them. The focussing was smooth and the image appeared very sharp (although I haven't had chance to compare them with more expensive models). There was a slight amount of chromatic abberation but only really noticeable at the edge of the white cricket shirts in strong sunlight against shadows behind.
Whilst I believe that Barr and Stroud as the famous Glasgow company making binos for the Royal Navy no longer exists, and the name has been sold to whoever now produces/distributes these binos (not clear on the box/instructions where they are made), what I can say is that these binoculars greatly impressed with their quality feel, sharp, clear, bright image, and the added bonus that they are waterproof. I fully expect to be using them with great pleasure for a good number of years to come. Very good value for the price, and excellent service from Microglobe.

I think these binoculars offer terrific value for money particularly a the discount price offered by Microglobe which couldn't be bettered anywhere I could find.
The optics are great and do the job well, coupled with a fast turnaround time,I got mine the next day, couldn't be happier. Many thanks.

After looking at reviews of different binoculars for bird watching/wildlife i opted for these because they were technically excellent value for money had good reviews and are made by a british company. The binoculars , case and strap have all got a very good quality feel. The binoculars are very sturdy and excellently made, they are easy to set up. When viewing the optics are sharp and clear putting my old Carl Zeiss Jena 8x35 to shame. Overall i am very pleased with my purchase and i would have no qualms about buying and recommending any Barr And Stroud products. The binoculars were dispatched quickly and delivered on time.
