I needed a replacement pair of binoculars for the 8 x 21 compacts that I had been using for years. I wanted something bigger but not too bulky or heavy, and after many hours of searching different brands, sizes and loads of reviews I ended up with these Barr & Stroud Sierra 8x42 binoculars which I purchased a month ago. I am not an expert when it comes to binoculars but I am very pleased with this product. I use them for bird watching in and out of the garden, general use when out walking and even a bit of star gazing. I get great detail of colours at the bird table just outside the window, and because of the close focus distance of just 2 metres I don’t have to back away to keep birds in focus. We have used a torch with a red filter to illuminate hedgehogs and a young fox that were feeding on peanuts in the garden and the detail picked up even under the red light was really good. All in all they look good, feel good in the hand and appear to be very well made and of course produce a bright and clear image. I would highly recommend these as you do get a lot of binocular for your money (£87). A great bit of kit to have in your daysack when out and about. As for Microglobe they have great communication and a delivery service that was second to none, I ordered these at 10pm on a Thursday night, dispatched on Friday and were in my hand up in Scotland by midday Saturday.
