It's been a long time since I last bought myself a pair of binoculars, and only having a limited budget I did quite a lot of reading on various forums before committing myself. I was anxious to reduce weight as much as possible, which seemed to mean buying roof prisms, but had read that the cheaper roof prism bins were not all that good. It seemed to be the consensus that one needed to spend upwards of several hundreds of pounds to get a pair worth having.
Being the stubborn sort, I still decided to risk wasting my money by buying roof prisms, and went to the only local shop who stocked any binoculars, which were Bushnell, specifically their H2o series.
But there was something about them that didn't feel right. They seemed cumbersome, and stiff to adjust. Maybe it was just me, but I didn't feel confident with them.
So I searched the internet again, and came across Microglobe, and asked their advice.
Fortunately I listened to their advice, given to me via the internet by one of their chaps, who steered me towards the Barr & Stroud, which I bought.
And found that my fears of wasting my money were groundless; I was so pleased with them!
They feel just right, they give a bright clear image, all the adjustments are smooth, positive but not stiff, and the finish is fine.
OK, so I haven't a pair of expensive ones to compare them against, but for my money these will do very well indeed.
So if your budget is similar to mine, you might well consider these well priced, good quality binoculars.
