The build quality of the Canon EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS lens is somewhat better compared to the typical low budget zoom lenses byCanon. The plastic quality is quite decent and the lens feels pretty tight in terms of build tolerances. The mount is made of metal. The lens extends when zooming towards the longer focal lengths but there's no wobbling of the inner tubes even at the 135mm setting.
The optical design uses 16 elements in 12 groups and environmental friendly lead-free glass is used for all elements. According toCanon, a ‘high-precision' UD aspheric lens has been included to correct aberrations, while a six-bladed diaphragm closes to a circular aperture for attractive blur. Coatings on various elements have been optimised to reduce ghosting and flare.
