This Pentax SMCP D-FA 100mm f/2.8 WR macro lens features a high-grade, aluminium
barrel with the high-quality, exclusive exterior design and finish unique to the
PENTAX D FA series lenses. Further, the entire mechanism of the focus ring has
been reviewed and upgraded to assure flawless manual-focus operation. The DFA
100mm f/2.8 macro is very different from its older cousin (FA 100mm f/2.8
macro) - it not heavy metal block but mostly a plastic-fantastic lens which
doesn't feel quite as durable. The inner lens tube wobbles a bit. Obvious
advantages of the new design are the very compact dimensions and a very low
weight. Typical for most medium tele macro lenses the inner lens tube extends
significantly when focusing towards short focus distances.
The WR lens has an almost-smooth barrel design with prominent depth-of-field markings behind the focused-distance scale. There is a manual-focus ring at the front of the lens that falls easily to hand. Being a true macro lens that is capable of a 1:1 magnification ratio, the manual-focus ring has a massive throw of some 270°. For the same reason, the front of the lens extends considerably when the lens is used at close range. If the lens hood is fitted, all of this extension (which totals about 47mm) is helpfully contained within a protective shield.
For improved performance, the PENTAX D FA MACRO 100mm F2.8 WR is the first PENTAX interchangeable macro lens featuring a completely rounded diaphragm blade to create a natural, beautiful bokeh at wide apertures, while minimizing the streaking effect of point light sources. PENTAX WR lenses feature simplified weather-resistant construction to repel water and moisture.
The Pentax SMC-D FA 100mm f/2.8 macro is a very good lens which is capable to provide very high sharpness till f/16. The bokeh (out-of-focus blur) is very smooth and buttery - an important characteristic for a macro lens. CAs and vignetting are very well controlled and not really field-relevant.

Excellent service super fast delivery and another excellent lens from Pentax fully weather proofed when mounted on my Pentax K5. Forget the Tamron 90mm - this is the lens you want edge to edge sharpness f2.8 quality metal construction and weather sealed - what more could you want.
