For the travelling purpose, the DEC Axis can be excluded together with the heavy counterweight shaft and counterweights, which greatly reduce the mount’s weight.
A 45mm dovetail plate with tripod screw (not supplied) is enough to fit your camera directly using a ball head (not supplied). Alternatively, a DSLR can be mounted to a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer L-Bracket (not supplied). When the DEC axis is removed the mount only tracks in RA, so you can easily take photos of your desired celestial objects. Now the mount works in a similar way to the Star Adventurer mount, but heavier duty.
The mount has some cosmetic similarity to the EQ3 PRO but has much-improved features and performance. Firstly, the mount is furnished with a large 92.5mm diameter RA worm wheel along with 180 teeth for high precision tracking (compared to 130 teeth for the EQ3). Secondly, the strength of the rotary base has been increased resulting in much greater stability, higher payload capacity and less vibration. Due to these features, the periodic error is also greatly improved.
